By taking part in The Great Southern Walk, your generosity is directly supporting two incredible local charities. This summer, Rising Sun and the Prince of Wales have been providing a huge range of activities for young people across the county!
Did you know that in the last 15 years, youth services across the country have been cut by almost 70%? The Prince of Wales Youth Club have been running since 1935, and they are still having a blast providing incredible experiences for young people.
This summer, they have:
- Travelled to Margate with Network Rail, taking part in a train safety day with British Transport Police. Of course, this was topped off with fish and chips and a dip in the sea!
- Organised a brilliant graffiti workshop, with young people completing a stunning mural over 2 days. They worked on the theme of looking after the local countryside, and we’re sure you’ll agree they did a magnificent job
- Headed to Wildwood with young animal-lovers to see their favourite species from England and beyond
Prince of Wales carry on their exciting range of days out throughout summer and the rest of the year, so the fun doesn’t stop!
Rising Sun have been supporting children and young people, alongside their services for adults, for almost 26 years. As part of this work, they organise fun, free days out for a range of different age groups.
This includes:
- A fantastic creative day out at From Scratch Crafts for the young people who take part in Adolescent Girls mentoring; painting pottery and making memories
- Days out to Wildwood and Kearsney Abbey with the residents of Liberty House, a supported accommodation for young women aged 16-24, and their children, exploring the local area
- Lots of fun at adventure playgrounds for younger children, scaling impressive heights!
These different groups play a vital role in building the social and support networks of survivors of domestic abuse, as well as supporting young people to explore their local communities.
These two charities cannot do what they do for children and young people in Kent without the generous support of people like you. With every step of the Great Southern Walk, you are making this work possible, and building a better future for young people and survivors of domestic abuse. Sign up now!
