The Great Southern Walk – Event Terms & Conditions

These terms apply to all individuals registering to take part in The Great Southern Walk, organised by The Prince of Wales Youth Club and Rising Sun, in Canterbury, Kent.


 

1. Event Summary

  • Date: Sunday 14th September 2025

  • Location: Start/Finish at Thanington, Canterbury

  • Routes:
    15-mile Challenge Walk
    5-mile Family Walk (pram-accessible with some uneven surfaces)

  • Start Times: 9:00am (main walk) | 11:30am (family walk)

  • Entry Fees:
    • £15 Early Bird (before 1 July)
    • £20 Standard Entry
    • £10 Family Walk
    Under 16s FREE for both walks

 

 

2. Eligibility

Participants of all abilities are welcome. Walkers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.


 

3. Registration & Payments

  • Online registration must be completed via www.tgsw.uk

  • Payment is handled securely via third-party platforms

  • Places are confirmed only upon full payment (unless otherwise waived by organisers)

  • Merchandise (e.g. t-shirts) may be ordered separately via partnered vendor links

 

 

4. Cancellations & Refunds

  • Registrations are non-refundable except in cases of event cancellation by the organiser

  • Transfer of places is permitted with written notice up to 7 days before the event

  • In the event of adverse weather, civil disruption, or force majeure, the event may be postponed or modified. Updates will be communicated via email and website

 

 

5. Medical & Safety

  • All participants are responsible for ensuring they are fit to walk the selected distance

  • The event includes uneven terrain, gradients, and potential environmental risks (e.g. heat, mud, wildlife)

  • First aid cover will be available at key checkpoints and the finish

  • Participants must follow safety instructions provided by marshals and signage at all times

 

 

6. Insurance

Public liability cover is held by the organisers. Participants are advised to take out their own personal insurance if desired. The organisers do not accept responsibility for loss, injury, or damage incurred during the event unless due to proven negligence.


 

7. Photography & Media

Photos and videos may be taken during the event for use in promotional and sponsor reporting materials.

8. Accessibility

The 5-mile walk is accessible for most prams and mobility aids, but includes a short uneven section (~200m). Please contact us in advance to discuss specific requirements.
